Microsoft Developer Evangelist and Ashoka Fellow Team Up!

This post contributed by Ashoka's Osman Ashai. The following is Part 1 in a case study series following Ashoka Fellow Hilmi Quraishi's collaboration with Microsoft to use mobile technology to educate the public and health care workers about Tuburculosis prevention and treatment.

Microsoft’s Developer Evangelist in New Delhi, Bijoy Singhal, has just teamed up with Ashoka-Lemelson Fellow Hilmi Quraishi who is a leader in the development of mobile games for social good across India. Hilmi’s applications are designed as simple to operate, affordable, and highly engaging, while Microsoft’s developer tools are great for creating applications to fit the needs of rural health care workers.

Together they will work closely to maximize the use of Microsoft technology tools such as Windows Mobile and Visual Studio Professional MSDN so that Hilmi’s organization, ZMQ Software, can add a new mobile app to train frontline healthcare workers on urgent Tuberculosis care.

Developer Evangelists are Microsoft’s representatives to the developer community. They serve in a technical role with the mission of engaging with the broad community of developers and driving excitement around developer related technologies, in this case Hilmi’s mobile applications for tuberculosis solutions. Hilmi, Bijoy, and Microsoft are charting a new path towards technology tools being used for positive social impact!
