Global Health Technology Happy Hour: October 2, 2009
It all started with an email from Aman Bhandari inviting me to a happy hour of some like-minded global health +technology professionals in the DC area. If you don’t know Aman, he is one of the fantastic authors of the Global Health Ideas blog. In my humble opinion, it is one of the best sites out there focusing on global health, technology, and development. You can (and should!) follow them on twitter.
I arrived, and was immediately inspired by this group of young, energetic global health enthusiasts. Some of the attendees work daily in the global health field; others were social entrepreneurs preparing to launch new start-ups in the global health/technology arena. Some worked at large organizations such as the Pan-American Health Organization, and others were recent MPH graduates looking to network with new people. Regardless of background, everyone was excited about what they were involved in and even more excited by the great conversations and connections being made. It was probably one of the best professional happy hours I had been to in a long time.
We decided it’d be good to make the meet-ups more regular. So, I’ve thrown together this facebook event page and invite anyone interested in the intersection between global health and technology to come to our next happy hour. It will take place on Friday, October 2 from 5:30 until 8pm. Come, be inspired, and leave with some really great ideas from the field. See you there!
